He was perfectly fine in the soft grass pasture or sandy arena, but unfortunately to get anywhere he would be required to pass over gravel roads. You would have thought he had an abscess or broken bones watching this horse try to walk across gravel. He moved more fluidly than I'd ever seen him move! However, since so much was removed his feet quickly grew tender. Trubee was trimmed by a natural barefoot trimmer and immediately felt relief. Fast forward several years, and I am presented with a semi-crippled Trubee! The only negative things were that they were super difficult to put on.and that they broke after a couple uses. Tucker was barefoot when I met him and I had every intention of keeping him that way! I tried some horse hoof boots once, and loved them for the one ride before they broke. I've never had a particular desire to "shoe" my horse.
